Enter into My Simple Life

I am a wife to a loving husband and mother to my precious daughter age five. For work, I run a home-based business and love to spend a lot of time with my family. Reading, Writing, Yoga & Travel are my ways to reflect on life.

My journey of simple life started with a swift mind shift back in 2016. This blog came as an expression of sharing it with others who seek the same. It’s my quest to help others find the mindset to Simplify and enjoy their life to fullest inside out. To know that it’s not that tough as it sounds. In today’s word simplicity is the power to cherish your life. Everyone’s life is different and same goes for the challenges & victories. I hope you find some ideas to customize & use on your own.
I love to write about Simple Mindset, Declutter your Space, Good Health & Effective Goal Setting. I believe in living mind fully.

I always remind myself that simplifying life is a marathon, not a sprint and I take it one day at a time. Reflection and Meditation help me to assess my surroundings, what serves me or not.

Check out my Videos on Good vibes, Positive mindset & Simple Living on my YouTube channel Simple Life Notes. Currently, I am posting videos on  31 Days of Positive Thoughts.

I look forward you to join me on this journey and help each other live a simple yet beautiful life.

Let’s Live Simple.

Find your Zen

“The only Zen you find at the top of the mountain is the Zen you bring with you ” Zen Proverb

By Dictionary- zen is a total state of focus that incorporates a total togetherness of body and mind. Zen is a way of being. It also is a state of mind. Zen involves dropping illusion and seeing things without distortion created by your own thoughts.

In a layman language- Zen is the space where you are mindful, content and in peace with your life. It’s your happy space in all goodness.

Zen is different for different people. It differs in different phases of your life as it appears.

When I was in search of my Zen, I found it in and around my family life. What I give or get in that space. I found how focusing on one event at a time gives me more fulfillment than constantly running after next one. I was more aware of my present surroundings. Also making a choice of doing what I love & good at rather following the norms

My Zen time included meditation, exercise, stretching, reading or just a simple cup of tea made with intention

Question is, are you hurried or always consumed with the very next event.  Missing the essence of present moment. Are there any habits you know that will help you to be more present and productive, you have experienced it but you can’t commit to them yet.

Have you ever experienced simple exercise of conscious breathing and the awareness followed by that. The feel of open space and clarity .

I found some for me,

1- Meditation

2- Practice mindfulness & gratitude

3- Reflection

4-Living balanced life

5-Reading

It helps to be consistent. Its a marathon for sure but I see the difference in overall well being and the life I live now.

What is your Zen , what makes you content?

Please share in a comment section I would love to read about it.

Thanks for reading.

Lets’s live simple.

Life’s Simple Pleasures

Sometimes we are too busy waiting for that perfect moment to happen where everything will be exactly as we want….and life moves on.

When sitting in quiet our minds are wandering around. Looking for that one high moment in the day to feel its worth.

Time has taught me that we have everything around us most of the time to make it perfect, it’s how you look at it. Simple things at present I am enjoying, seeing my daughter having a  conversation with her toys. My husband enjoying a good workout & giving a winning smile post workout. My dog trying to cling to me, just a little bit closer.

Sometimes it only takes simple lunch with my friend or a heartfelt quick chat with an acquaintance while walking my dog. As simple as completing a simple task out of my to do list.

Have you ever experienced the joy of simple in your life recently? I would love to know about them.

In hope of discovering myself deeper and making you part of my Simplifying Journey.

What if?

“As we grow we tend to hide our human tendency of asking questions behind our existing knowledge and titles! ”

Today I sat and asked few questions to myself, without forcing any answers right away but giving enough attention to that part of my life?

What If my energy levels matched my aspirations for physical challenges?

What if the mental clutter was all gone and it was all clarity of mind in everything I do?

What if I was able to travel a new place every 3 months (near or far) on my bucket list?

What if I was able to feed my mind with good information every day?

What if Meditation/Reflection/Mind time was Non-negotiable in daily life?

What if I put in my intention on everything I eat or drink every day?

What if I knew that limit of having money & resources I need to live a happy & healthy life?

What if decided to listen more than planning my next talk all the time?

What if all the physical clutter was gone and all I was left with space and things I love the most?

What if I started putting my Intention first and evaluating it regularly?

What if it matters the most how my conscious feels and I act accordingly?

And so much more….

Have you asked any questions to yourself lately, I would love to know about them?

In hope of discovering myself more deeper and making you part of my Simplifying Journey.

What Race are You Running?

“RUN YOUR OWN RACE”

In so many ways it s true that we all are running our own races, everyday.

Point is what race are you running?

Race to have a best health and Nutrition?

Race to have a great Mental Health?

Race to have an amazing Married life?

Race to have good memories and experiences with your kids?

Race to add more value to your community?

Race to have the biggest, most upgraded house in your friend circle?

Race to have the best & heaviest furniture ?

Race to have the costliest coolest symbol on your car?

Race to brand yourself Up?

Race to throw the best party in your social circle?

Race to have the most luxurious vacation ?

Race to have a great life of less regerts and more experiences to share ?

End of the day we are either satisfied or dissatisfied with our races. Reason is our intention and longevity of satisfaction it provides us. Some races don’t even have a finish line, so you never reach there.

Now a days I’m in a race to reach to the point where I enjoy my present moment by being fully present. Reducing the noise and distractions of every next thing approaching me and my attention to be purchased or needed -Right NOW !!!

Are you on some race of your own or trying to run a New one ?

In hope of discovering myself more deeper and making you part of my Simplifying Journey.

My Simple Goals 2017

“New Year, New everything ”

At least that’s how most of us start feeling as last week of the year approaches.

My goal this year is not necessarily to have it all new, but keep good habits and improve in areas which will make my life simpler & happy.

last year I spent a lot of time & energy to simplify life. My Mantra was “Less is More”  result of that, lot is gone out of life leaving more space and time to think about things really matters. (refer to My Simple Life)

Goals for the year 2017 are more towards basics that include what I’m already doing and make it more effective. I want to create good & simple daily life which collectively make 2017 a happy and productive year for me & my family.

1-  Mantra of the year “Health is real Wealth”

Healthy food Healthy body, doing 20+ mins Yoga every day, Time to think/Reflect / Meditation every day, Walk or run one mile a day, watching my water/sugar /salt intake

2- Respect Time/Commitments

Same time to sleep & wake up / Drop my daughter at school on time  /meetings for foundation/ work/ posting new blog weekly.

3-Sharing Quality time with my Husband & Daughter( hiking /dates/travel/reading/play time/more pictures together)

4- Putting more meaningful content thru my blog.

5- Volunteering at my daughters’ school/non-profits

6-Mindful Earning & Spending.

7- Meaningful Reading- 1 book every month -12 good books for 2017.

8- Keeping life & household Light and simple.

I know above-mentioned goals look so simple that sometimes we ignore them with the rut of daily life. In reality, I believe sticking to these goals will result in a major upgrade in my life. I try to make my goals measurable by attaching simple numbers with them.

Do you have any goals which are close to your heart & you plan to write them down this year …go after them?

In hope of discovering myself more deeper and making you part of my Simplifying Journey.

Peace of Mind

“Set Peace of Mind as your highest goal and organize your life around it”

As per my experience, there used to be a time when I had everything but no peace of mind, now I have peace of mind I don’t need everything.

As complicated as it sounds with trend of Mental clutter, it is very simple to achieve Peace of mind. It needs small changes in our attitude & habits.

We need to go to the source of the Mental clutter. It is different for everybody but when you reach on your pillow at night start observing the noises, unresolved issues, desires and thoughts.

I started paying attention to my thoughts, few things came out on top of the list are as follows( again it differs to each one of us),

1- Knowing beyond control & in your control situations.

2-You can’t please everyone at the same time.

3- Every phase of life comes with unique demand of changes, accept and go with the flow.

4- Build your self image, stop beating yourself. Give discount of human error to yourself too.

5-Don’t dwell in past so much that you loose the focus on your today. In fact present is all we have to show for.

6- Limit yourself on thinking about something, overthinking only takes you down.

7- Forgive more, Judge less

8- Trust me you can’t change anyone expect your own self.  So invest time and energy in self development. Remember learning never stops.

9- Practice Gratitude Everyday, even for the most mundane things in your life. Sometimes I am just thrilled for a nice cup of coffee in my hand.

10- Last but not the least- Try to make choices in alignment of your Peace of mind. A day lived hurried is a day not lived.

Some changes helping me to get better are, doing Self talk, writing a simple journal & meditating everyday. I am not in constant chase of materialistic life & comparing life with others.

I am not striving for perfection but daily habit of doing all this. I make sure to give some outlet for heavy thoughts & spend some time reflecting everyday. When I am on my bed, I’m ready to rest and rejuvenate for next day.

Do you have any changes which helped you to have more Peace of mind?

In hope of discovering myself more deeper and making you part of my Simplifying Journey.

My Simple Life

“When we are craving Simplicity, We are not after easier life,We are after Life”

2 years back I changed my mindset, to live a life I love. There are always times when you compare your social life/material life/health/ vacations etc. Too much time on social media, socializing & rush of advertisements can make you feel discontent.

I slowed down to commit my feelings to myself. I took account of things I was doing everyday i.e either acquiring stuff or planning /working to acquire some more.

I started giving more thought to simple & meaningful life. I learned not to overcrowd my mind with doing it all. To say No to events & stuff, that urge of doing something all the time. Now I understand the expense of saying yes to every next thing/invitation. Every yes to outside world can cost you family time/Exercise/Rest/ learning & contribution.

I keep my Family time on top, doing something enriching together. Your goal is to take initiative and create life you enjoy, job you love, house you can manage. Enough money to live and save for vacations & retirement.

As per my experience when You loose someone, the first thing you think about are all the good times spent together, not material possessions he/she own. Something to think about !

Don’t Value your time only with money but what else you do with it?

Questions I had to ask myself to get clarity in My life-

1-Are you overworked, stressed. Are you waiting it to rectify it till its too late?

2-When was the last time you thought beyond your material self- beyond accumulation of gadgets/cars/clothes etc.?

3-What are the changes you plan to do today for your Simple life today & tomorrow?

I started with small changes. Observing quality of choices I make all day.

What I read/watch?

What exercise I did today / What did I do to relax today?

What came planned and what was unplanned and how I react to it?

What did I do to be my better self tomorrow?

How much undivided time I shared with my family ?

I am still a work in progress, but life is certainly simple. I’ve learned to say No. My pacifiers are changed to reading and watching videos in line of my interest. I give more time to Running, Hiking & doing Yoga. More spouse/daughter time. I know what am I doing today has a positive impact on my life tomorrow.

Now with sincere thoughts, energy and planning, my days are simpler. I feel content of using my time and seeing the difference in my family life & health.

(Bonus -our finances are getting in better shape and we have time & money to plan amazing vacations)

Do you have any changes which helped you to be more Time Rich ?

In hope of discovering myself more deeper and making you part of my Simplifying Journey.

My Simple Home

Am I holding my Stuff or My Stuff holding me?

That new piece of furniture, wall decor, Clothing & appliance. That cloud of What to buy Next?

I know the feeling, constantly trying to acquire something new. Its like I was in war with space in my house. Always trying to fill in with new stuff.

Results- Debt, more time to maintain stuff, complicated spaces in house, No Gratitude (race of acquiring more), confusion  & lack of time overall.

I read somewhere, Your physical clutter later becomes your Mental clutter. I felt that there were times I could not put my thoughts together or express my feelings clearly even in small matters.

So last year I started Disowning Stuff. You see, we are more attached to the feeling of owning something then actual stuff. I did not want to be in that cycle of seasonal declutter. I sort through every room of my house, to see what is essential and what is there out of peer pressure or “suppose to be there” feeling.

I had done many petty decluttering projects before. This time I understood letting go has to be long lasting. So when I gave away things, I also gave away the feeling attached to it (not including sentimental items, that is another blog altogether).

In last one year, I have donated vans load of items. I was shocked to see how much stuff was hiding in my house, even though it was right in front of me. I never took account of it. some of the stuff came with us while moving from apartment to house. it was siting there never opened, never used, almost 3 years. I was merciless this time.

Wondering what stuff went out,

  • Old Stroller
  • Broken , unused toys ( My daughter dont even look at them)
  • Tons of clothing (not appreciated, wrong size, What If’s)
  • Old wires/electronics(Why?)
  • Grill (used 2 times, we prefer cooking in house)
  • Broken Blinds(Can you believe it?)
  • Tons of plastic ware(Multiples)
  • Paintings
  • Hands Down (I accepted it all, being nice)
  • Books( Sitting there, we go to library regularly)
  • Shoes (we wear our favorites and rest of them wait)
  • Appliances ( waiting to be fixed or supposed to be there)
  • Random Stuff( Last owner of the house left for us)
  • Holiday Decor( more than needed)
  • Shelves (Many of them What if’s)
  • Furniture (uncomfortable or broken)
  • Linen (multiples for emergencies)
  • Box springs (were sitting in basement)
  • Exercise Equipment (impulse buys)
  • etc etc etc

When I was done sweeping thru it all, I was left with things I actually like and use. House felt bigger and in order. As I had already left the war of acquiring new things, our finances are getting in better shape. We have more time to do meaningful activities in our life.

Its a constant fine tuning in life. Keeping a check on what comes and goes out of house. I  regularly look at my possessions intentionally and ask why I have this in my life. We always park the idea of new purchase for few days to see if we really miss having that item in our life.

Now not only we got rid of clutter but as a bonus our life’s priorities are more clear. More spouse time. More uninterrupted quality time with my daughter. Better health. Better finances.

Let me know if you’ve gone thru any such experiences where you felt stuff is taking over your life. Is there any particular item took you by surprise while donating or getting rid of it.

In hope of discovering myself more deeper and making you part of my Simplifying Journey.
